No "local area connection icon"

Hi,

I have the weirdest problem...
I can see two network cards "1 is onboard, the other is PCI" in my device
manager.
Device manager shows these two nics as being enabled and both say the device
is working properly.
No red crosses, no yellow, and they are enabled/
When I go into network connections I DO NOT see the "local area connection"
icons....I should have two..one for onboard and the other for PCI.
I have run the netsh reset command, dialafix, reinstalled NIC drivers..but I
still do not get an IP address, cannot connect to the network and when I type
IPconfig at the dos prompt I get
"Windows IP confiugration" and thats it..no info..
Never seen this before...and any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

A little late now but I would have first tried a System Restore to a point
in time before the problem happened if possible and if not an upgrade/repair
install otherwise. I have seen that before also and was not able to resolve
it any other way assuming the plug and play service was running.
