when i change the colour of a set of cells, the grid lines no longer
appear in the coloured cells. am i able to both coloured cells and
grid lines

Paul

The gridlines you talk of are the built in 'guides' which are overwritten
when you apply a cell 'fill'. The way over this is to apply a 'border' to
the coloured cells.

You cannot have colored cells and gridlines. The colored cells overlap the
gridlines and make them invisible.

Investigate the use of Format>Cells>Borders.
