No Files on CD after Burning

CD Burning always has worked without any issues, then starting last week we
are having the following issue.
After burning a CD using the built in CD Burning software in Windows XP,
there appears to be no files on the CD. Seems like all it does is write a
blank CD and never copies the files to the CD. When the CD is inserted to
view the files (On another omputer or the one used for burning) there are no
files on the CD and there are 0 bytes free on it. It is XP SP2 with a
Philips DVD8801 Burner.
Very strange behavior. Any help is appreciated.

Any system changes made, eg. installing third-party Burning software?
Any problems showing up in Device Manager?

Start > Run: services.msc
Make sure that the IMAPI service has been startet. If this does not re-
solve the problem, replace that drive (hardware issue).

I'm having a similar problem on three computers, all started within the last
week. My pc at home, my pc at work, and a colleagues lap top. Different
machines, different cd drive manufactures, different media, all using Windows
XP pro SP2.

The IMAPI service refuses to write to a blank CD. The wizard gives the 'no
disk in drive error'. When you right click on properties in Windows Explorer
it shows the disk as full.

In Admin Tools>Services the IMAPI service has been stopped. Starting it
does not resolve the issue, nor does changing the setting to automatic.
Logging out, logging in and rebooting after changes to the IMAPI settings
make no difference, the service has been stopped again, and even when started
via Admin Tools Windows refuses to see a blank disk.

I can't see anything else on this issue in the knowledge base and wonder if
it is a conflict resulting from a recent Windows Update.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Well, that's easy to find out. Uninstall the recent updates from one of
the affected machines and repost if the problem has been fixed.

Thanks for that, as it turned out it WAS a completely superfluous update
that was the cause on my home machine. And the guilty update was:

Update for Windows Media Format 11 SDK for Windows XP (KB929399).

This was removed via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then rebooted
computer. Checked same blank CD that before showed full in My Computer. The
disk now shows empty. I have test written some files to the CD using the
Wizard without any problems.

I hope to confirm this with the two machines in work over the next few days
and will post back.
