No display on games

Bill

I am running Windows XP on a AMD 1800+, 512 meg RAM,
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX. I installed Civilization III and saw
the opening video. When the game should have cut to the
opening game menu I got a blank screen (but heard the
proper background music playing). I had a simnilar
problem with Crimson skies. I checked for the DirectX
software and found what looked to be empty DirectX
folders. Tried installing DirectX from the discs, but
that did not seem to work. I got
instantaneous "Installation Complete" messages. I went
to Microsoft's support site and downloaded DirectX 9.0.
The download took about 20 minutes and then seemed to
install on my computer. I tried to start Civ III again,
but had the same problem. Going to the DirectX folder it
still looks empty... Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill H.

Hi,

Got Start>Run and then type 'dxdiag' (without the quotes)
and hit Enter

This will tell you what version of DirectX you are using
and allow you to run some diagnostics.

Also, take a look at this link for basic troubleshooting:
