"No Disk" message

After I run a full system scan, msmpeng.exe wants to access my A:. Because
the A: is empty, I get a "No disk" message, and it won't allow me to do
anything until I put a blank floppy into the drive. When the program is
finished working, I check the floppy but it is still blank.

What's going on? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Defender, but
the problem remains. My OS is Win2000.

TIA

I don't know what's going on, but I believe this is a bug. I've got one
machine that I see this on. So far, I've only heard of this sympton on
Windows 2000 machines, and I don't have a fix or workaround other than what
you have already done--put a diskette in the drive.

Bill, can you let me know what the details are on this?

I haven't seen this one yet on a machine that I'm running Defender on.

I replied off list, citing somewhere between 5 and 8 messages that I think
show this same syndrome.

All, or nearly all, are Windows 2000 machines--I don't think you'll see this
on XP, but I don't know why.
