I constantly get this error and only after I have been using a cd in a drive
and remove it. Then running just about any application gives me this error:
"There is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk in drive F" F is my CD
drive. And the application is on the harddrive, not cd. This really confuses
and frustrates me. I have to put a disk (any disk) in the drive to get rid
of the error.

Run diskmgmt.msc and shift the CD's drive letter to
something other than what it is at the moment, e.g. to
G:, H: or I:. This may not fix the underlying cause but
it may cure the symptoms.

It sounds like the change switch in the CD drive is faulty. This is the
hardware switch that detects whn the drive is opened. If it doesn't, then
Windows thinks that the disk is still there and sulks when it can't find it.
