Trying to solve other problem on computer (Dell Inspiron laptop), now when
boot into safe mode get black screen with Windows information at top center
and "safe mode" in corners. Device manager shows no errors on display adapter
or monitor, although there are 4 instances of Default Monitor under Monitors.
Can pull up Task Manager with C-A-D in safe mode, and can boot into safe mode
with command prompt, get command prompt. Help?

Lynn,

Have you tried to right click on the desktop navigate to arrange icons by
and make sure show desktop icons is checkmarked if not just click on it to
checkmark... there are no boxes.

You could try ctrl+alt+del and select "Explorer.exe" and then click the End
Process button. Now go to the File menu and choose "New Task (Run...)". Type
in "explorer.exe" without the quotes in the text field and click ok. See if
you're desktop comes up now.

Bingo! explorer.exe wasn't even running. When started it, got safe mode
dialog and then desktop came back. Thanks!!
