I have two machines both running XP Pro+SP2.
I have connected them with a cross-over cable and both PCs show full
connectivity.
When I try to access the "other" PC via "Mshome", both machines are listed
but when I click on the other one I receive a message stating that the m/c is
not accessible. I might not have permission to use this network resource and
to contact the administrator.(I am the only user on both PCs)
and "The network path was not found"
I have carried out the connection procedure several times but the result is
always the same.
The Host computer is connected to the net via a sagem broadband modem.

If one or more of the computers is XP Pro:

a. If you need Pro's ability to set fine-grained permissions, turn off
Simple File Sharing (Folder Options>View tab) and create identical user
accounts/passwords on all computers.

b. If you don't care about using Pro's advanced features, leave the
Simple File Sharing enabled.

Simple File Sharing means that Guest (network) is enabled. This means
that anyone without a user account on the target system can use its
resources. This is a security hole but only you can decide if it
matters in your situation.

Make sure the Simple File Sharing settings are identical on both
computers.

One of the most common causes of your problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component.

Make sure NetBT is explicitly Enabled.

Or you can look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and
"net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):
