NO camera detected?!?!

I recently installed XP upgrade over my Windows 98se. I attempted to install
new camera and even though all appears ok, when I try to download pictures, I
get a message "camera not detected". I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice
and it still doesn't work . Computer seems to not be able to recognise my
camera no matter what. It's a Cannon A60.

did you install the drivers for the camera? Have you checked for updated
drivers on the Canon website?

Did you follow the Canon software and connection installation
instructions exactly? Have you got the camera switched on and the
mode switch set to playback?

How are trying to connect it [USB 2.0 or Firewire]. Some will connect with
either. Others demand Firewire.

I attempted to install driver but Im not sure if it worked. When I hook up
camera, it does not read immediately like it does on a laptop that I use the
same type camera on. Yes I went to Cannon website and no help there.
