No Booting, restarting HELP, Maxtor D740x-6L 40gig

HELP!!!! This problem is driving me crazy since nothing is helping.
Here is the deal: My maxtor D740x-6L 40gig drive will not boot fully.
I installed XP-Pro with Service Pack 2, had everything working fine
and then the machine just died. I go to restart and everything works
fine in boot up but then I get the windows screen asking me how to
start up: safe mode,..... start windows up normally, etc... When I
select ANY option it thinks for a second and then restarts. I can
NEVER get into windows.

I have put the HD into another machine, changed cables, you name it
i've tried. I"ve run the Maxtor disk utilities, and still it just
re-boots when I get to that one screen.

If anyone has ANY feedback or ideas PLEASE help out.

XP will do that when it sees a serious error.

Have a look at thats in the error logs,
it may not have much to do with the drive.

How can he look in the error logs if he "NEVER gets to windows"?

Looks rather like he is getting into it enough
for it to have started to write to the error logs.

He does say 'boot fully'

Actually, I can not get past that main bios screen. It automatically
resets every time.

To add a little more to it, I have taken the same HD out of that
machine and put it into a new one and still had the same problems. So
that is what led me to believe it was the HD. Somethin else that is
odd which I am not sure if relates to this is the fact my RAM count
somtimes shows up the right amount at boot up and then at other times
shows up less then what I have in which is 512megs.

Could be the ribbon cable too if you are using that in both machines.

I'd run the maxtor diagnostics again, looks
rather like you didnt run them properly before.

That does suggest that the problem is with the PC, not
the hard drive. Surely you arent getting that on both PCs ?

Maybe you just have two dud PCs.
