no boot, but sounds like arcade game???

Hello everyone,
On an older Dell Inspiron 7500, running WindowsXP Pro, when I attempt to
boot up, I get the Dell splash screen and a sound like someone is playing a
game of space invaders. The sound repeats over and over and over.
Ctrl-Alt-Del gets me a black screen with a blinking cursor and the message
"Operating system not found".
BIOS says there is no hard drive installed. What happened?!? Everything
worked fine yesterday. Please help.
Thank You

the beeps you are hearing are beep codes from the bios probably, it sounds
like your hard drive may have failed ! one thing to try is unplug the ide
lead and boot until it fails then switch off and reconnect lead sounds a
little odd but often works for me, if this works back up your data and buy a
new drive as the controller will most likely be on its way out

good luck

Thanks Steve, but I don,t think these are beep codes. They're not beeps at
all. Would the BIOS say there was no drive installed? Is there a way to
test the hard drive?

Well I can't hear it, so I'm guessing the MB has a problem and it's not
seeing the HD. You could try Dell diagnostics but you would have to get
them from Dell. So all guessing aside. Contact Dell either by phone for
suggestions or the web site support for tools.
