My PC came with XP on it. I want to back up the registry so I looked up an
article on the microsoft website it recommended using Back Up and that I
would have to install it via the Windows XP installation cd's. But my PC
came with XP and i checked the system recovery cd's but nope, couldn't find
it. Am i looking in the wrong place?

Hi,

It may not exist. The backup utility is an optional "value-add" program, and
many manufacturers choose not to include it. You should contact the system
maker to see if they can provide you with a copy, however they do not have
to.

no...
but you sure haven't done your homework....
do a few searches here in the newsgroups how where to find, and how to
install it from the home edition...possibly...

if you wish to back up the registry only

Click start
select run
type in regedit
click ok
select my computer
right click and select export

That makes a copy of the entire registry to any location you specify.

Not sure why you would want to with system restore available but backup as installed in windows makes a backup of all files not just
the registry so you would get a lot more than you bargained for in the process.

Thanks everyone for your help. Reason I want to backup my registry is there
is a tweak i want to unlock but I don't want to take any chances on
screwing up either.
