No Background Picture when sending published page via email

G

Guest

When I view my published website the background picture (in my table) is
visible...However, I am emailing the "page" and the background picture is not
visible (it just appears grey). What I am sending are usually marketing
pieces or announcements of some kind and we prefer to send these via email as
a "page" versus a link because it's instant gratification (of course it's
just another way or "view" of a web page where all the links within the body
of the email work).

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can correct my web page or send a web
page (or view of it) in another manner where the background will show
correctly?

Here's one idea I had: I was able to convert the webpage into an Adobe PDF,
all the links work but I don't know how I can copy the PDF contents into the
body of the email (versus it being an attachment) without losing clarity.

All image links would need to be absolute URLs to your site

Stephan,

Can you expand on that answer? All my other graphics show up correctly with
the exception of the background - I''ve "published" the graphic.

I'm not sure what you mean (sorry - just getting my feet wet!)...thanks for
your help!

Did you import the image into your web before inserting it? Look in Code
View and make sure the image doesn't have file:/// in front of it. If it
does that means it's linked from your Hard Drive.

What's the URL so we can take a look?

The background appears OK in IE7 and FireFox for me, though it is slow
to load.

Are you using Norton or McAffee products? If so either change to some
other anti-virus or Internet Security, or change the name of the
Advertisements folder.
Those 2 products (and others) will block any images named or contained
in a folder named with any of advert, advertisement, banner, ads and so
on.

Even if you are not affected by this, other users you send the page to
will be.

You need to set a colour for the text - in FireFox the text (except
hyperlinks) is all orange, which is the default colour I have set.

No, there is no VML that I can see, although the HTML tag does mention
it - probably the page is copied across from Word.

The page also has no background colour specified. And, most of the text
in Firefox is smaller than in IE7 (no font size) and appears as Times
New Roman (in both browsers) instead of "Folio Md BT", which is not
installed on my machine.

Other than that, the rendering in Firefox 2 and IE7 are very similar.

Guys, I don't think you're answering his real question here...you need
to re-read his original post.

The background he's talking about is the "metal plate" GIF that's the
background of his table, not an overall page background. And he's not
complaining that the background doesn't appear when viewed in the
browser...it does.

He's saying that when he sends the page to someone as an email, the
metal plate background of the table doesn't appear in the email when
it's received, but all the other graphics on the page do. So he wants
to know why that is happening, and how he can fix that, so that if he
sends the page as email, it appears correctly on the recipient's end.

Tom Willett

I am aware of the metal plate GIF that he's talking about. I do *not* see
it in Firefox.

Since the page works in (my) browsers, the cure for the problem is as
Stefan said several posts ago - make all links absolute. I am surprised
that any images show in an email since all links are relative in that
page.

To give any answer to the problem, we would have to see the code that is
in the email itself.

All your image links need to be absolute

instead of
