No Background Music Playing on PS3.1

I recently created some slideshows successfully within Microsoft Digital
Image Suite 2006 PS 3.1. I am able to play these slideshows in Windows Media
Player 10 just fine. I went to create a slideshow last night and added a mp3
audio like I have in the previous 40 slideshows I've created and when I tried
to preview it, there was no sound. I can play the mp3 fine in audio programs,
so I know it works. I then rendered the movie from the slideshow and it saved
it, but when I try and play the movie, no sound. I took a previous slideshow
that had played fine both as a project file and a rendered movie and when I
play the project file back within PS 3.1, it, too, it now won't play the
audio.

When I got into PS3.1 last night and tried to preview the 20 picture long
project file, it kept freezing up. Since it won't play music within project
files that I KNOW were working fine a month ago, is it be something corrupt
with PS 3.1 and do you suggest I reinstall the Digital Image Suite (including
PS3.1) again? Would that solve the problem? BTW, when I play any of the
previous slideshows I rendered into movies, they play with both pictures and
sound just fine.

Thanks for your help! I tried to look at previous threads, but I don't think
it's the codecs problem because I can play the previous movies fine in WMP10,
just can't get music to play within PS 3.1 itself no matter if it's old or
new.

UPDATE: I copied off a few of my previously created slideshows plus
the one I created last night and using another computer that has the
Photo Story 3.1 on it, opened the project files up. Upon preview,
they played the music just fine, including the one I created last
night.

I uninstalled Digital Image Suite 2006 off my main computer, then
reinstalled it, thinking that's where the problems lie. However upon
going into PS 3.1 and opening my project files (old and new), none of
them are playing audio at all. The older ones I created previously
and had rendered to "movies" play just fine in WMP 10. However the
one I created last night plays only the slideshow WITHOUT music.

Please help as I'm at a loss as to what I need to do. I have about 10
slideshows I need to work on before October and need to try and use
my main computer if at all possible (the one that won't play the
audio on). Thank you!

Maybe converting the .mp3 files to .wma before
importing would produce a better result.

Thanks, John. I read that in another post so I'll have to try that. What
puzzles me is that I've done the exact same thing when creating the previous
slideshows in the past 10 months and never had a problem. Even when I do
create a project file using the mp3 song, it won't play back in preview
within PS3.1 nor when I play it back with WMP10. However if I copy off the
project file onto a CD, then take it to another computer that has PS3.1 on
it, the preview plays fine, music and all. When I then render it to a .wmv
and play it on WMP11 (which is what I have on my other computer), it plays
just fine music and all.

Like I said, I thought it was something corrupt within PS3.1, so I
uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still the same thing. I don't want to
have to switch out computers because all my picture files are on my main
computer. I'm just trying to figure out what could be causing PS3.1 not to
play the audio, even though it's clearing saving it into the project file and
will play fine when rendered into a .wmv. Any suggestions??

Also, if I do convert the mp3 into a wma audio file, then put the file onto
a DVD using NeroVision Express, will I be able to play the DVD on a DVD
player and still have it recognize the music? I just always thought mp3 was
best for saving in DVD format or does it save the whole thing into something
different to enable it to play on a DVD player?

Thanks for your help, John!

My only suggestion would be to try the conversion.

Maybe you can find some useful info at the following sites:

Hi again John. Well I've looked at both of those website and it tells you how
to add music, but does NOT address the problem with why PS3.1 is suddenly not
playing mp3 files, but if copied to a CD and imported back into another
computer with PS3.1, it previews just fine and plays the rendered slideshow
just fine. I did post on Mark Coffman's forum, but haven't heard anything yet.

BTW, I did try the conversion idea you suggested. Never used it before, but
it did work. I still would like to solve the mystery of why the mp3's now are
not working with PS3.1 when they worked just fine before now.

Thanks for your help! You guys are so invaluable to help us newbies figure
out what we are wanting to accomplish!!!
