No auto restore points

Heirloom

Hi All,
Homebuilt P4, 2.8G, 2x80G Raid 0, 1G Ram, 64M video, 80G Data HD,
300G Backup HD, Abit IS7 mobo, approx. 9G on Raid drives, tons of freespace.
ZAPro latest ver, Avast! AV updated, Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Crap
Cleaner run on a regular basis. Only additions (other than AV updates) have
been the latest Win Updates: KB910431, KB905915 and KB890830 malicious
software thingy.
About two weeks ago, auto restore points have ceased, can still make
manual points and points are created from app installs. I have reset SR by
turning it off, rebooting, and turning it back on.....a restore point was
made at that time. I have monitored disc usage with Process Explorer,
nothing out of the ordinary, no "phone home" apps and CPU idle holds at 99%
or better when not in use. Have covered all I could find on Google and
Google groups. It's not a real biggie, in that, I keep a complete,
up-to-date backup using Acronis True Image........more of a "what's up and
why?" situation.
Thanks to all
responses........

Hi,

Hi,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title “Source” at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There’s no need to post duplicate Event ID’s.

Heirloom,

System Restore requires the machine to be in an idle state to create system
check points. This is by design so that System Restore never intrudes when
the user is using the machine by taking processing power to create a system
checkpoint. Hence, if system restore never sees any idle time on the
machine, it will not be able to create System Checkpoints.

Hey Heirloom:

All of a sudden I have the same problem. Takes me back to when ZoneAlarm
was the problem in ME. But, even when ZA is disabled and nothing is
running on my old homebuilt auto points do not appear. I will take a
look at the links offered in the responses to your post however, feel
free to do the research. You're much better at it than me. The cold here
in the northeast has severely reduced my aging brains capacity to absorb
new knowledge. If you figure it out, I won't be too embarrassed to pick
your warm Texas brain.

Cheers

This is weird....I got your reply, sced, but, I can't find my original post!
I have no idea what links were posted with mine. I just happended to see
"Re: No auto restore points" and saw it was you in response to my
'non-existent' post. As I can see my original below yours, would you mind
posting the links here, so I can get them? I'd appreciate it. I'm still
working on it. I know there must be something fooling Windows into thinking
it is not idle, but, I can't find anything that would do so.

sced, would you happen to be running Avast! AV? I seem to recall a program
update recently and I have had a couple of instances where Avast! has
indicated a connection timeout. Just wondering if there may be a connection
between that and the lack of auto restore points. Anyone else using Avast!
having this issue??
