no audio when playing dvd

I recently have encountered a problem...whenever I play a dvd with windows
media player, or real player, there is no audio. I have tried playing a cd
instead and they seem to work just fine. Could anyone help? Thanks!

What sound card? How is the audio setup from the DVD player
to the sound inputs --- digital, analog or both?
