No aero with a X800 - READ THIS!

Aero has been broken in Vista since RC2. I bugged this with MS and the reply
was it would be fixed in RTM. Well it hasn't. Vista drivers, MS update or ATI
drivers give aero on startup. i.e. taskbar and start menu. As soon as an
application is started or a window opened it reverts to classic with no
options available through personalization to turn it on.

A temporary fix is to download RC1 drivers until MS or ATI fix the
problem/s. I am using these and have experienced no problems.

Go to AMD's site here
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/commonprevious-vista32.html
You need the 8.29 drivers dated Sept 2. A 74.6 Mb download.

Also go to the Cataylst crew feedback page and put in a report. That way,
AMD might do something.

Works on my X1400 with both the newest and the original Vista drivers.
It has worked since the build just before RC1 (first I tried.)

I am happy for all those who have had successful experience getting aero to
work. I like a lot of others did not have that experience.

It is appearing that the problem seems to more prevalent with AMD CPU's and
Nvidia chipsets. I have a dual core 3800+ and an N4 ultra chipset.

As stated the RC1 drivers work fine. What has changed since then?

Maybe NVidia. I have heard some bad things.

Is this ANY program and ANY window, because vista will
temporarily switch of Aero if an application doesn't support
the theme, or if a screen is maximised.

My 800XL has no problems with Aero in Vista with either the driver that came
with Vista or the new Catalyst 7.1 drivers.
