good evening guys,
i have a perplexing (at least for me) question for you. i have a
workgroup home network setup with 5 pc's connected. one of the the pc'
is loaded with advanced server 2000 which hosts 5 websites and ftp. th
rest of the pc's are 2000 professional and all have dynamic ip's wit
the Advanced Server set with a static ip. i have my DSL modem wit
router enabled. i have the NAT port forwarding to the Advanced Serve
pc. from the modem i have the WAN connection going to a 4 port HU
(because i can get the port forwarding to work on a consistant basi
with the modem bridged going to my linksys router). the problem i
that i cannot see my websites from the other 2000 professional pc's.

the twist: i have yet another pc in the house that had its own cabl
connection to the net and this pc can see all the websites all th
time.

i know this is a mouthful, but hopefully i'm overlooking somethin
incredibly simple that you can help me with.

of course, thanks in advance,
gran

Are you running local DNS on your server? Are all workstations pointing
ONLY to this server for DNS?

NAT won't allow you to make a U-Turn back to the Site from the inside. The
machine that has a separate link works because it is not using the same "NAT
Device" as the others and is therefore not trying to make a "U-Turn" with
it.

When accessing the Site(s) from machines that use the same NAT Device used
to also "publishing" the Site(s), you must access the Site(s) by the private
internal IP# or Netbios Name of the Server itself, so that you go directly
to the Server and not to the NAT Device.

It is also possible to adjust your internal DNS Server (if you use one for
AD) to properly resolve the FQDN of the Site(s) to the correct internal IP#
of the Server.
