Nikon LS-8000 vrs LS-9000

Hello Everyone:

I have an LS-8000 (which I bought just before the 9000 became
available). A lot of the medium format images I shoot have a wide
contrast range which the 8000 seems to have some difficulty scanning
accurately. The manual even goes so far as to suggest that high
contrast images not be used; this is not a very practical solution. The
LS-9000 then comes out with a "New Feature," the ability to scan
underexposed images using DEE in the Digital ICE section of NikonScan.

Has anyone used this feature? Is it worth an upgrade? I have a lot of
images that could benefit from such a feature and "fixing" it in
Photoshop works... to a point.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You might download the software from the Kodak website. Do a google search
on "applied science fiction" and you'll find it. (The company was later
bought by Kodak.) Not sure if it's exactly the same software as DEE, but the
demo is free. IIRC you can buy it for US $ 60. Hope this helps. Sorry due to
spam I shall not provide a valid e-mail address. Please reply to group.
