Nikon Coolscan scanners - brief resume anyone?

Can anyone outline the history of model numbers? is the LS 50 the same as
the LS 5000, for instance, but merely sold in different countries?
Similarly the LS IV v the LS 4000?

The Nikons with the larger numbers (4000, 5000) are the top of the line
for 35mm film, with the 5000 being the most recent model. The LS 50 and
40 have limitations, such as: no multisampling, lower bit depth, and
lower scan density (dynamic range). With the 40 you get lower
resolution as well.
