nice effects on hotspots

Hi people!
I built a template with ilustrations and pictures on photoshop. Every image
I will insert a hiperlink to another page. I will do this on frontpage with
hotspots. No problem, I know how to get there. The question is...any way to
give a special effect to this hotspots? I found scripts on Dynamic Drive to
make an image to fade when mouse is over, but how can I make that hotspot
only to have the same effect? Because the image is the whole template, so, I
don't want that fading, just the pictures with the hotspot on it.

I think you would need to slice up the image so that you can replace the specific section on mouse
over, etc.

How do I do that?
I just wanna an effect on the image map. I know is possible, because I saw a
website (www.suicidalgirl.com) that works like that. The links have image
maps and when mouse over the the text, will appear some thing like a red ink
on it. I tried to insert some scripts from dynamic drive, but it's working on
the intire page and I don't want that.
Can you help me?

What you are seeing is mouseover image swaps for the links, using transparent images.

The picture is a "background image," with the links and swaps on top of it.
