Newsreader menu item vanishes

I have just purchased a new Compaq S6900NX, that came
with Office 2003 pre-loaded. I purchased a CD and key
directly from Microsoft in order to activate it. In
Outlook 2003, I followed the directions to activate the
newsreader. (Add that command to the GO menu.) It
worked fine- until I closed it the first time. Now the
menu option is gone from the GO menu, and no longer
appears in the list of features that can be added through
the add/remove buttons list. I have tried everything
through a complete uninstall and re-install, and nothing
works. The newsreader has just vanished off the face of
the earth. Any ideas? Please e-mail me if possible at
(e-mail address removed) I really don't want to have to pay
Microsoft to fix a problem that happened right out of the
box.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

Thanks Russ... you probably saved my monitor's life. I
flipped through a couple of pages in this newsgroup
without seeing anything on it before I posted the first
time, so sorry if I didn't see a similar thread.
