O

oh well

I got the info below today. On this past Wednesday I got a notice about an
update available and downloaded/installed it yesterday. Is this and that
the same thing or are they different? The newsletter sent me here.

"So you've got a fully patched Internet Explorer browser, and you think
you're all set. You can roam anywhere on the internet with impunity, right?
WRONG. A new browser exploit, which is showing up with frightening
regularity on websites across the seamier side of the 'net, can take over
your system without you even knowing about it. And Microsoft wouldn't even
patch IE to fix the problem. Luckily, we have fixes, work arounds and other
details to help you get around this problem. Check out our story, and the
fix your browser today! Otherwise you'll be running around the 'net with
your pants down."

thx,

Open Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. Check the "Show Updates" checkbox
at the top of the dialog box. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen and
see if you have the "Security Update for Windows XP (KB925486)" entry. This
is the patch for the vulnerability that the ZD article refers to.

Thanks, big help and a relief. It threw me a curve when they said MS
wouldn't fix it.
