Newsletter format for Mac and PC's

Mike Webb

Using Word 2002.

We would like to email out our quarterly newsletter using the features in
Word. We've always mailed hard-copies in the past (done up in Adobe)., but
want to try this to see how it's received. Our several hundred recipients
with email accounts pose a challenge for me; I expect some of them to be Mac
users, and that some ISP's could make it difficult for them to view the
info - or might even block it as potential spam (which it isn't) or a
virus/worm.
My thinking is to save it in RTF format - I'm pretty sure I can still use
colored font's, sizeable fonts, and a few graphics. Did a Google search on
this newsgroup, but couldn't bring up an answer to my concerns.

I'd very much appreciate the advice and comments of the readers of this
newsgroup.

It really sounds as though mailing an electronic newsletter in PDF would be
a much better idea than Word--making life easier for your recipients,
minimizing the virus issue, and absolving you of any worry about what you
see is not what they get. Is there a reason you don't want to? There are
cheaper programs than Acrobat out there. (or, does the Adobe program you
used to use have a "save as pdf" option?)

Unfortunately, the sole version of Adobe Acrobat we had for creation and
publishing was on a Mac - and it's out of the office. I will look into the
PC version for the future (as well as MS Publisher - heard on this newsgroup
it is a nice tool).

In the meantime, I need a solution from Word.

Cordially,
Mike

Why the resistance to using PDF? Or are you just resisting using expensive
Acrobat and missed my statement of cheaper options?

Anyhow, here's one free pdf creation program--http://www.pdf995.com/ There
are others, try googling for "alternatives to acrobat" or "pdf creation" or
something.

As a member of various organizations, I'd rather get a newsletter in pdf
format than in Word or RTF, and it will look far more professional.
Word/RTF files are likely to change pagination for every recipient, see
here:

Graphics may turn into Red Xs, particularly on Macs, I don't remember
whether RTF solves that problem.

RTF does nothing for a Mac, formatting can change, fonts can change. I have used all Macs for decades now, and if I got a newsletter in RTF I would delete it in a heartbeat. Buy Acrobat, Make PDF's. It's the way to go
