First you needs to set up a Newsgroup Account...
Tools>Accounts>Add>Newsgroups
(get newsserver details from ISP)

Then...
Help>What are Newsgroups>Subscribe to a Newgroup

Well it looks like you got this one setup OK Henry.

First thing to do now is 'munge' your email address before you make another
post!!

Go to tools>accounts>double click the M$ communities account>on the General
Tab change the email address to (e-mail address removed).

Next thing to do is go to tools>options>read tab and ensure that you have a
tick in Get ### headers, I set mine to 50 to start with.

On the toolbar you will see the Newsgroups button, click that, then 'reset
list' to ensure that you have all available on the M$ server, now select the
other groups that you want to subscribe to, I suggest doing them one at a
time and use 'GoTo', that way you will only get the ### of messages that you
set earlier. this group alone would throw about 30,000 at you if you do it
any differently.

Now you need to select Microsoft Communities in the folder tree and set the
sync settings, I have 'all messages' set.

Now go to the view menu>layout>customize toolbar>in the left pane select
Sync All>add, move the button up or down the toolbar to suit you? Use that
button to get all your mail and newsgroup messages at the same time.

So now you have the subscribed newsgroups, they will show something like 50
messages 32,000 not downloaded, to get more messages on the tools menu>get
next headers, when you feel you have gone far enough back right click the
newsgroup>catch up.

That should get you started.

Your ISP may provide a news service, check at their website for the
settings.
Anything else, get back.

My way to check where messages are posted from is that I have a news rule
set up, it highlights in Blue any post that comes from
@discussions.microsoft.com

Very useful rule, I just adopted it.

Gary, did you do the Apply Now with the rule to this group, their are a lot
more coming from the CDO than not. When you consider that the Communities
feature is built in to WM.
That web interface is horrible to use, and many just never find there way
back to find any answers.
