How do I start a search in a newsgroup? I click the
search button and enter something in "From" but cannot
find a button to start the search.

Hi

If you are using the web based interface there is a search button available although it would be a lot easier to use a news reader - such as Outlook Express - for searching.

Hi! John;
There is a search button if you use web based NG.
But always better to configure OE to use NG.It's far far better, secured.

As others have suggested, setup a newsreader. See link in my signature for
tips on setup of the built in OE newsreader and links to other options.

For a better newsgroup experience. Setup a newsreader.

While I use a newsgroup reader for "reading" the newsgroup, but rather
than use that tool for searching, I find it more effective to search
using Google's newsgroup search site at http://groups.google.com as they
keep (far as I can tell) all postings and the search engine is, of
course, hardly surpassed by anyone.

Michael is correct. Following his link will give you a much better
experience. I have tried to use the supposed newsgroup Search function you
mention, on numerous occasions. How many times did it work? Once.

Besides, if you switch to OE, you can delete annoying, redundant and
irrelevant posts, highlight for further attention, and once read, a post
retains this setting, unlike the "default" system you currently use. Also,
there is only one "page," you can expand all posts and keep them that way,
and everything happens MUCH faster.
