news messages

news messages i have read are being stored in "indexed files" that I locate
with search. I cannot delete from there because even when highlighted anbd
right clicked delete is not an option. I have also tried to drag the file to
the recycle bin, but that doesn't work either. I'm accumulating too much and
need a way to purge and if possible prevent future accumulation. I've got
Vista and using windows mail. Any ideas?

In Windows Mail, go to
Tools - Options - Advanced - Maintenance
check [x] Purge newsgroup messages in the background
check one of the 2 delete boxes
