Italian, no binaries, registration required.

Just registered for it (the Italian language wasn't a problem, but I had
to lie that I was in Italy), not tried yet. Looks good.

there is always tera news - still free (its what i am using to post this)

I use Teranews for binaries but it is QUITE unreliable. The servers have
been down for days at a time. There are times when it's impossible to post.
It's not nearly as reliable as news.individual.net.

hmm, just singed up for a year...

quoting from the online-shop when finalizing the purchase:

"First Subscription Period (once)
Price: € 10,00 for 409 days
once

Following Subscription Periods (selfrenewing)
Price: € 10,00 for 1 year
self-renewing

An overview of your subscriptions is available
in your servicearea at www.firstgate.de. You
can also terminate your existing subscriptions
there without a hassle.

end quote

Ouch, "self-renewing"...hope I remember - if I ever need to sing
off...and hopefully I will, if and when a new free server of this
quality/reliability surface.

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

I didn't have to lie. After all, Lecce is just the Italian for Leicester
isn't it?!!!

I assume then that unless one lives in Italy one has to lie ? Has
anyone here NOT from Italy subscribed, with non Italian info,
without lying ?

Doubtful as it asks you to pick what part of Italy you are from.

It's not a real problem, I've got an answer from the server owner about
this. He says that he's not got the time yet to update the web form for the
users outside Italy.

Thanks for the update Maria. :-)

Geez, pay news.individual.net the $1.10 or so a month. What they offer is
worth far more. This server has limited bandwidth and is only for the
Italian nation. Believe me, they will quickly catch on and start
banning/booting the foreign signups.

I'm using other servers and I'm not a user of x-privat.org, but I read in
the italian newsgroups that they're improving the bandwith (2MBps) and that
they won't ban foreign signups, they won't discriminate from Italian or
foreign users.

A funny note from the server manager about keeping it free:

"Il giorno che x-privat farà pagare obbligatoriamente i servizi
NetNews testuali, sputerò in un occhio al gestore :)"

Transl:
"The day x-privat will oblige to pay textual NetNews services, I'll spit
into the manager's eye :)"

I don't have how to pay $1.10.

I already have had enough trouble with credit cards and paying stuff
over the Internet.
