I'm currently using Turnpike as my news and e-mail client but I want to
ditch it as it keeps causing my system to crash and I'm looking for a
combined program (free) that will do the same job and ideally allow me
to move my mail and news from Turnpike (6.04) into the new program(s).
Please don't suggest trying to find out why it crashes, I've been trying
for about 4 months :(
Any ideas please?
With thanks.

I use Thunderbird with success.

I've just spent a few hours trying it! I didn't like the newsreader
side. I found it very limited, but the e-mail client was fine.

Thanks to whoever referred me to 40TUDE!

That is one great program. It is much more
versatile than the PAID copy I have of AGENT.
Multiple Servers, Multiple Identities, Multiple
email addresses, it has it all!

Thanks folks,

Ned Goudy

I agree!! Have been messing around FOREVER with Thunderbird--(and not that
there's anything wrong with it) I am pleased that someone here suggested
40tude.

THANK YOU!

Why not have the best of both ... a REAL dedicated newsreader and a REAL
dedicated email client ? Do you really expect a combined program to satisfy
both needs ?

I'm not sure what you're suggesting? Stay with Turnpike or what? :(

He is saying try out Xnews, XanaNews, Free Agent for your news reader, and
get a dedicated email program. You may be happier that way.

I was trying to figure out what Turnpike is. I went to the webpage, and it
seems you have to use a certain news service in order use Turnpike for free.
Otherwise, you have to pay for it. Is this correct?

Ah, OK. But I still need to be able to somehow squirt my mail & news
from Turnpike. I think it needs to be done using IMAP?
Thanks.

Go back to TP5.01 - it doesn't mess with anything.

Hi Roger. I seem to remember you inhabiting the
demon.ip.support.turnpike group? Are you familiar with reverting back to
TP5? I've had a look at Demon Announce but I'm not sure about the
process. Are they saying that if I export my TP6.04 files in Berkeley
mailbox for news and batch news then TP5 will 'recover' them in their
correct format?
Also, the procedure says 'Restore the Turnpike 5 files from your
backups'. What TP 5 files are they talking about, as surely I only have
TP6 files in the TP folder at the moment? Or do they mean the exported
Berkeley files and batch news files?
I would dearly love to stay with TP but I've had 2 'Terminate' crashes
this morning already. :(
Thanks.

Yes, AIUI. If you use Demon as your ISP you get it free, otherwise you
pay. I'm not sure but it is about £15 or so.

Thanks.

You may want to investigate the exporting capabilities (if any) of turnpike.
