Hi All,
I have just upgraded my CPU to xp 2600 Thor not barton
My Bios if the original that was on the board.
The auto setting on the board says that I am running a XP 2000
Do I have to change the jumpers somewhere.
Cant understand the manual ( just new at this )
system specs
Xp2600
A7V8X gold
80 gig maxtor
Globalwin silent heatsink and fan
geforce Ti4200
2 -80 mm case fans
Asus probe monitoring is reporting

cpu temp 45c
mb temp 39c
cpu fan 3082
+12v 12.576
+5v 4.919
+3.3v 3.28
vcore 1.744
My memory is PC 2700
it is being reported as unknown speed
installed size 512 mb double bank
CPU reported as XP 2000+
supp voltage 1.7
external clock 100 hz
current speed 1250 mhz
max speed 2250 mz
Can I change all this to give correct speed of CPU and if yes ( important
bit here) HOW
What do I change on the board or what do I change in the bios
Bit longwinded but better to have more info than to little
I would appreciate anyone's help
Cheers in advance
Dave ( very troubled person)

Dave,

I've never seen that board before, but in my experience AMD cpus
automatically run in FSB of 100MHZ. It probably bounced back in
the bios when you installed your new cpu.

Look around for an option to increase front side bus of 100mhz to
133mhz in the bios.
I cannot ever remember the tab options, but look for something
called Frequency Settings or similar. Go through them one by
one..you'll see it.

Anyone else confirm?

There are two cores for the 2600, one 266 and one 333. The newer 2600 should
go to 333 FSB. In the advance bios options it should be your first
selection. Either select the 2083mhz/2133mhz choice or set it to manual and
set your multiplier to 16 and the FSB to 133 for 266 core OR multiplier to
12.5 and the FSB to 166 for the 333 core. Check
http://www.amdboard.com/athlonxp2600special.html for more info on that
processor. These are the stock speeds.
