Newbie needs Advice...

Hi. I have a Canon MP830 All-in-One, which I like (the printer prints
excellent photos), but the bundled scan software is so great.

Are there third-party alternatives for scanning software? Got any
recommendations?

What don't you like about the Canon scanning software?

Get out of Simple Mode.

ScanGear CS is very good scanning software, just click on the Advanced Mode
tab.

The 2 alternatives I know of are Silverfast (expensive) and Vuescan (under
$100). I have Silverfast SE (lite) for my flatbed but wasn't going to spend
the money for my filmscanners (Nikon & Minolta now). It does have more
features that Epson's scanner software and works very well.

I use only Vuescan for the filmscanners.
