New XP computer unable to log in to server

Hello,

I got a new Dell computer with windows XP at work and am unable to log on to
our network storage box (Dell Powervault... I'll refer to it as a "server")
using one specific login name.

During the computer setup, the first windows logon name I created was, say,
User1. I tried to log into the server using the login name User1 and get an
error saying "\\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource..... The referenced account is currently locked out
and may not be logged on to." However, I can log on to this account from
other computers.

Now I get this message whenever I try to access \\server without even
getting a username/password box to try to log in.

I created a second windows logon name, say, "User2" and tried to access
\\server and I can log in with any other account I've tried. I even tried to
log in as User1 and got the same error as above, but if I try to access
\\server again, I get the normal login box and can get in with other accounts.

I think the problem MIGHT have to do with the fact that the new comptuer is
registered to "User1." When I go to the System Properties, this is who it
tells me the computer is registered to. I don't see any other reason it
would discriminate against User1.

Is there any fix for this? If there is even a way to change the name that
the comptuer is registered to, that might be an acceptable work-around.

Thanks,
Adam.

Update:

I can no longer log in with the OLD computer either. Simply having two
computers with different computer names, but registered to the same name
(according to the "General" tab on the System Properties for each computer)
has stopped both computers from being able to log in to our Network Storage
Box.

Also - Both computers have Windows XP Home. I found a way to change the
windows logon name in XP Pro, but not Home.
