new windows not opening right

I am not sure when this started but all of a sudden, when
I ckick on a link & it opens a new window, the window is
too small & I have to manualy maximize it. This is
happening to any new window opened by clicking on a
link. When I just use CTRL-N, the window opens fine. I
am running WinXP Pro with all service packs & hotfixes.
I am stumped. (not hard to do) Thanks.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window last.
