New version of the Auto FE Updater available

Added ProgramsMenuFolder option to create a folder in your Start >> All Programs menu
for such shortcuts.

Added buttons to open the server folder or the Main App Folder in Windows Explorer.
If the user gets an error message they only see the button to open the Main App
Folder.

Fixed bug where StartMDB.exe was staying in memory introduced in version 1.77

Changed StartMethod=FileExtension to use a different API call as the API call I chose
to use did not handle file extensions longer than 3 characters consistently including
ACCDB and ACCDE.

Remove Startmethod=FileExtensionSimple as it is now the same as
StartMethod=FileExtension

Documented NewINIPathAndFile in the INI pages and updated the FAQ page. "This line
is only used when moving servers or such as this will rewrite the path and name of
the StartMDB exe and INI file in the target of the shortcut. This line is only
placed in the old INI file."

Minor bug fixes, and some better error handling and clearer error messages in a few
places.

Tony - I run a split db, fe's on user's machine, backend on server 2003
machine. The state will not give me Administrative rights to server. I badly
need your updater but can't get it to work without permissions. Is there
another way? Thanks so much!!!

Ah, good to know. The utility also works with A2010 and Win 7.

The utility will work just fine without admin rights to the server.
So long as you can place files on the server that's all the
permissions you need.

BTW could you please post or email me a list of features you'd like to see in the
Auto FE Updater. And that goes for anyone else reading this thread too of course.

Will be happy to but hopefully I can get a few days to do so...

Or phone me. My 800 number is on my website. Evenings are fine. If i"m not around
leave a voice mail with comments. 800 number is quite cheap for me. A few cents per
mniute.

Sometimes it's easier just to talk than type.

Oh, you have to create a folder on the server too which contains the
front end and any associated files. But that shouldn't be a problem.
I don't think IT folks lock down creation of folders if you have
update/create rights to a server share.
