New toolbar on left side

I am having great difficulty trying to add a new toolbar to the left side of
my desktop. I would like to keep the one at the bottom but add items I use
often to the new left side.

The toolbars are unlocked and I have added the quick launch toolbar which I
would like to undock and move to the left side.

When I try to left/click/hold on a blank area the pointer does not move it.
I have noticed that if I carefully click on the left side it turns into a
tilted x but it still will not move.

Any ideas?

Make a new folder with all the shortcuts you want in this side bar.
Right click the taskbar and make sure it's not locked. Click Toolbars | New
Folder and browse to and select your new folder. You can drag that to the
side.
 
Thanks I did that and just called it "shortcuts'.

Now it is on the tool bar but I can't get it to move to the left side.
 
Thanks for you help, here is a solution I found with a Google search.

In Vista you can no longer move your quick launch toolbar to the side of the
screen. For users who have been running XP for a long time, this can be
quite painful. Of course, I know the work around...
1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop
2. Select New Folder from the context menu
3. Drag this New Folder to the very side of the screen and let go. The
toolbar should run vertically down the side of your desktop.
4. Right-click this new toolbar and select Toolbar and then Quick Launch
5. Right-click this new toolbar again and unselect New Folder
6. Right-click taskbar at the bottom of the screen, select Toolbars, and
unselect Quick Launch.
