New splash screen policy?

I went to the Embedded OEM site to download the SP2 package and noticed that
they have a link to a PDF containing "Additional Licensing Provisions" for
XP Embedded that include revisions for XPE SP2. Now I'm not a lawyer, nor do
I play one on television, but here is paragraph 5 in this new license
agreement supplement:

5. COMPANY may either (a) elect to use the Licensed Product "splash screen"
(as defined below) in its entirety with no modifications except those that
are expressly permitted in the License Product Deliverables documentation,
or (b) elect to replace the "splash screen" and create its own splash screen
without including any portion of, or otherwise modifying, the licensed
Product splash screen. Neither MSCORP nor MS shall be obligated to provide
support for the suppression or replacement of the "splash screen", except
suppression as described in the Licensed Product Deliverables documentation.
For the purposes of this Additional Provision, the Licensed Product "splash
screen" means the Windows® Logo that appears upon Embedded System bootup.

Isn't this different from the previous case, where we have been told that we
can't replace the XPE splash screen? Note that this apparently allows one to
"replace" the screen, but not to modify it, which makes sense.

Hi Doug,

It is already confirmed :-)
So you may use boot ini switch to place your screen.

Thanks, Slobodan. Is it still the procedure that I recall from somewhere:
/bootlogo /noguiboot in boot.ini and a 640x480 16-color file boot.bmp in the
\Windows directory?

Hi Doug,

It should be but I have not tried it on SP2.

Hi

Just one question to this matter.

Is it only apllicated for XPe with SP2 or allso for SP1 with pre SP2 patches
???

Thomas

Is there a way to specify the /bootlogo in Target Designer instead of
modifying the boot.ini file manually before deployment ? (or even automate
this operation?)

Pascal,

No such option that I am aware of.
Unless you want to create your own component that either replace boot.ini or changes its options (through CMI script), you have to
change it manually.

Thanks KM.
