New security updates vs FTP

P

Paul Smith

After installing the new batch of security updates, FTP transfers using any
client (SmartFTP, CuteFTP and IE tried)have become near impossible. It
seems packets just get lost when trying to transfer up and it times out. I
can actually navigate and rename delete files no problem.

Windows XP SP2, I've System Restored back - and behold FTP working normally
again, tried updating again and the same thing has happened.

Tried turning the Windows firewall off, passing all ports from my router to
this machine with no luck either.

Any ideas?

I am using windows XP Pro sp2 with all available updates, optional and
critical.
I am able to FTP to my website with no trouble.
My website is running the windows 2003 Server with IIS6.

Can you give me more info on the FTP sites you are trying to connect to.

I'm connecting to a Linux box, I've swapped between PureFTP and ProFTP
servers and no difference. I've just tried my ISPs FTP server (I think
that's Solaris based) and the same thing.

Both servers are fine, as I can connect from my Win 2000 box on the network
ok.
