New RAID Start-up Problem

Have just built a 1x2 SATA RAID 1 array and Ghosted old single HDD to new
array.
Array is recognized and "active" but not listed as "system" in disk manager.
When I power down, unplug old HDD, and try to re-boot using the array, after
entering my login ID and password, XP closes network connections and
re-boots. No error messages. Same behavior in Safe Mode. Fdisk says new
array is active but reports wrong size (10GB vice 80GB). System works fine
with old drive plugged in. What am I missing? Thanks in advance...

1=FLOPPY, 2=CDROM, 3=HARD DISK. Then
Check the Hard disk boot priority in your BIOS.
These may be worded differntly form mainboard to mainboard.

Many things can be wrong. BIOS setting especially, but if all is set
right and you are seeing all the disk space in the RAID boot screen,
then you need to run a repair install, pressing the F6 key and having
the serial RAID drivers on a floppy disk ready.

Andrew,
The RAID menu reports the array is fully functional during boot. The MB
supports RAID ) and 1--I'm using RAID 1. On boot, I get all the way thru
login (enter user name and pwd) but it won't go any further. After entering
pwd, it tries to get my user settings; then closes network settings and takes
me back to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen.

Frank,
The BIOS is set to boot from the array 2nd--after the floppy drive. It
boots XP all the way to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen; then, when I enter my userid
and pwd, it tries to load my settings, closes network links, and returns to
the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen.

I've heard of this before, never done it myself however. But the advice then
was to insert your XP-CD and do a repair, as I remember this sorted the
problem.

I'll give it a try but I still don't think the problem is with the RAID. The
machine boots properly all the way to the XP log-in screen except that, once
I enter my userid and pwd and it starts to load my personal settings, it
fails to complete the log-in and loops back to the log-in screen. Is there a
boot.log somewhere I can look at?

Believe it or not, the solution was to go back to the original disk, turn off
automatic updates, and re-image the array. After re-imaging, I shut down the
system, uninstalled the old drive, and re-booted. Everything works fine.
Strange but true!

Glad you got it working.
