New PC Won't Boot

Hi. I'm assembling a home built PC (standard stuff, athlon 64 x2, msi
atx motherboard, etc). When I push the power button, the fans spin
(including the cpu fan which attaches to the motherboard) and the dvd
drive works (opens up anyway), but nothing comes on the monitor and
none of the LED indicators on the front of the case light up.

Any help?

It could be 1 of many or a combo of several problems. Make sure the
monitor works and it is attached to the video connection properly. My
first guess would be the memory. When you first start the machine does
it beep? How many beeps? You stated that you are "assembling a home
built PC". What is the model number of the board? What kind of memory
are you using? Is everything new?
As far as the LED indicators go I would check and make sure you have
the connectors for the case properly plugged into the board.

Check that both power cables are in place. There is a 20 or 24 pin
main connector, plus a 2x2 ATX12V square connector which powers the processor.

Connect the computer case speaker to the PANEL header, and listen
for beep codes. No beeps means the CPU is not able to run at all.
One beep is a good sign. A repeating beep pattern, could be indicating
bad RAM or bad video card. The motherboard manual may document some
of the beep codes used.
