New patch: IP addresses don't work

M

Marc Brett

I installed the new IE6 patch on Windows 98SE and Windows XP Home, and
now if I type the address of my local router (192.168.x.x) it can't
find it. IP addresses on the wider Internet seem to work OK.

My workaround is to enter a new hostname into C:\WINDOWS\HOSTS for my
various routers, printers, WAPs, etc. but I shouldn't have to.

Any ideas?

I had same problem for the first time ever just the other
day. I shut down my machine, reset my cable modem and
router, and everything was fine. Hasn't happened again to
me, so I decided the Linksys wireless router temporarily
crapped out for some unknown reason. Not sure why it
chose the day I installed the IE6 rollup security update
to crap out, though...
