New partition in WinXP...

Why would the "New Partition" option be gray/unavailable when I try to
partition a new, secondary hard drive in a computer? I can see the new
unpartitioned space under "Disk Management" under "Computer Management" in
the administrator tools.

The user ID does have administrator rights.

I'm not at the machine in question right now, but looking on my machine
under "Disk Management", I see the online indicator on the left side of the
drive.

Are you telling me that I need to click somewhere around there when I get up
there to turn his drive on?

Yes............when I installed my 2nd Sata drive I needed to place the
drive online before I could partition/format the drive.
