How I found that there is an update worried me about MyIE2 being a
spyware. When I started the browser this morning it pop up a window
saying there is a new version available even though I have the "Check
for new version on start up" unchecked. I noticed the burst of
network traffic on startup in the network status bar when I installed
the last version. Spybot S&D did not find anything so I thought it
must have been caused by one of the plugins, of which I have too many
installed. Now it is obvious that MyIE2 called home even when I asked
it not to. I'll installed the new version in the hope that this
problem and the nagware screen is just aberrations but I'll keep a
more careful eye on it.

I get file not found errors on Major geeks. Cnet looks better but it still
shows the old version number.

Update : The new version is still doing it. Could someone using MyIE2
check to see if yours is doing the same thing. I have mime set up to
start with a blank page and not checking for update. I also have the
status bar option to show network speed. After starting MyIE2 take a
look at the network speed panel and see if there is a burst after
about 3 seconds.

Everything works great here. But then, the previous version worked fine
too...

I've never seen this behavior through the past year or so of use. Win XP
Pro, IE 6.0 and always the latest version of My IE2. I, too have My IE
set to open a blank page on start. My firewall logs verify that there is
no network activity when starting My IE. Maybe try searching for spyware
with another Spyware checker. Good luck.

Restrict access to myie2. Set your firewall to prompt, see where it is
trying to connect to.

One possibility is googlebar updates, that cannot be turned off.

Sounds reasonable. I don't use the Googlebar, so can't say.
