After changing a new motherboard, xp boots up to the screen where one can
select 'safe mode', 'last known good config', etc.
However, all the above results in a system reboot which again shows the same
screen.
Is this a normal behaviour after changing a new motherboard?
Should I reinstall xp?
I hv yet to try the repair option (cross my fingers that it will work
alright) but would like to hear some views on this matter.
Thank you.

Hi

You have to perform a 'Repair' install of XP after changing the motherboard.

When you replace the motherboard you almost always have to do a Repair
Install of Windows XP.

Good luck

hello all

No, I'm not able to do a repair or reinstall.
I kept getting some dll file(s) was not copied correctly and file setup
placed on the harddisk is not a valid xp system image errors.
The xp cd is in good condition.
I've changed the ide cable but the harddisk is rather old.
Has it to do with the state of harddisk?
Any pointers to overcome this problem is appreciated.
Thank you!!!

If you can return the system back to the original configuration with the old
MB. It should boot up and stabalize Windows.
Then replace the MB with the new one and on first boot set the BIOS and then
immediately do the repair install. It should complete successfully.
Post back with the results.

Move XP to new hardware.
