new marker styles

A workmate with the same version of Excel has a different set of data markers
available. I found the article below that says alternate patterns and styles
are available - but didn't say where - can anyone help?

This article was previously published under Q97589
SUMMARY
Data markers on xy (scatter), line, and radar charts have a fixed size in
all versions of Microsoft Excel (although alternate patterns and styles are
available). However, there is a technique you can use to replace the current
data markers with objects of a different size.

This is rather old information:

"Microsoft Excel User's Guide 1," version 4.0, Pages 481-485
"Microsoft Excel User's Guide," version 3.0, Pages 486-491

The latest version of Excel is Excel 2003, or Excel 11.0.

If you double click on a series and click on the Patterns tab, you have
the option to change the size of the data marker.

The default markers are the same in all "modern" versions of Excel
(since '97), but the technique offered in the article you cite can be
used to use any shape as a series' markers:

- draw a shape or otherwise acquire a potential marker
- copy the marker
- select an individual point or an entire series
- use Paste from the Edit menu, or Ctrl+V

Hi Jon,
The problem I have is that on one machine the markers are a Circle and on
another machine they are shown as a circle with a cross thru it. Both
machines have the same version of Excel. and all other variables are set the
same. However I have solved (sort of) the problem by setting the forground
color to 'no color' on the graph and the machines showing the cross just have
it as a circle now.
thank you for your time.
