New Letter to Contact - Custom Templates

I would like to know the best way to create new .dot templates that will
insert a contacts data into the .dot when i select it from the "New Letter to
Contact" wizard in Outlook 2003. I have done something similiar a looong time
ago using VB and a command button but I would like to avoid that if there is
an easier way. It seems crazy to me that there isn't a simple way to grab
Outlook contact field variable names and insert them into a .dot like you do
with a mail merge. The outlook data fields are fixed.. I have found a list of
them in the past and used bookmarks and VB to do this. If anyone has found a
simplier way please let me know.. Otherwise let me know the best way you ahve
found to achieve this.

thanks in advance.

Did you get a response to this ? I have been working on this problem for
about a year & a half. I can not get an answer. Everyone said it was
doable but no explanation as to why I can not get it to work.

unfortunately I have not gotten any responses or answers on this.
It basically cannot be done from what I can tell. Just have to write a
command button in VB. Which I personally am not going to bother doing. Just
dealing with it the way it is. Hopefully they will wake up and put 2 and 2
together to make this an easier task.. maybe in office 2010 :)

They "fixed" it in Outlook 2007. They removed this feature completely. ;)
