Upgrading from windows 2k to XP home. All hardware is fine. Install process
goes well. Machine locks up at splash screen with blue bars. XP home is new
cd - system builder version. Have reset cmos. Forgive me if this is an old
question or old problem.

You cannot use an OEM version of Windows XP to
upgrade over an existing Windows 2000 installation.
You would need to perform a "clean install".

Unplug or detach all hardware that isn't strictly needed to boot, just leave
the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

If you're actually using a system builder version of XP, you've done a clean
install from a bare drive, and have not done an upgrade install, is this
correct?

If you actually did do an upgrade install, did you run the Upgrade Advisor
and remove software that it indicated wasn't compatible first?

Did you verify that all hardware is actually compatible with XP?

Yes, it was a clean install. All hradware is compatible. I am using video
card and memory from another XP Home SP2 machine. Thanks for quick response
guys.
