new IE patch causing PDF plugin errors?

anyone else getting this? ever since the December IE6 update (i'm on Win2K
SP4) yesterday, a link that spawns a separate window to open a PDF file
(Acrobat v.6.0.4) fails. I get a pop-up window titled "Acrobat plug-in."
with the text "Could not find Acrobat External Window Handler." You click
"OK" and get another pop-up that says "an internal error occurred." You
have to download the file and opt to open or use FireFox.

so far i've had this happen on verizonwireless.com and bankofamerica.com.
Both worked immediately prior to this IE patch. I handle all my finances
online, & every site spawns new windows with PDFs, so this is a big deal.

fwiw, i run as a normal restricted user to prevent malware installations...
no admin or power-user rights here.

No problem for me. Why are you using such an old version of reader?
7.0.5 is current.

i have the full version, which came with the machine. If i upgrade, I lose
a lot of functionality. FWIW, i discovered last night that things still
work on XP SP2, it's only with Win2K they've broken it.
