New HP dv9000z 32 or 64

I just got a New HP dv9000z 64 bit notebook Computer running XP. In a
few weeks I am to receive the new Vista 32 and 64 O/S. I really want
to run the sys in 64 bit mode but I heare there are a lot of
incompatibilities associated with the 64bit system. Has any one
experienced this problem with the HP 9000 series notebook?

It depends on what software you run. Your notebook is described as Vista
Premium ready so you will not have issues with the OS and the built in
devices, with the possible exception of the web cam, in Vista x86. It
depends on HP how soon the 9000 series has a full device driver and utility
suite for Vista x64. There are no Vista drivers or utilities listed on the
support page yet.

Since it is a media center pc, you need to pay attention to Vista compat
when selecting software. Media and gaming are areas where there are some
Vista compat issues. You should have no trouble with productivity software.
HP will be your best source of info on Vista x64 drivers and utilities for
your notebook. You will not be able to upgrade to Vista Home Premium x64
(upgrading from x86 to x64 is not possible) but you can migrate from XP MCE
by using the Windows Easy Transfer wizard that comes with Vista. This is
why you need to make certain you will have or can make an x64 drivers cd
before you migrate to Vista x64. Depending on how heavy duty your work with
media files will be, a 64bit OS can be a definite advantage. I suggest you
defer this decision until HP posts Vista drivers so you can verify that both
x86 and x64 drivers will be available.
