New hard drive requiring device drivers problem

I've recently installed a 3rd sata hard drive in my Vista machine. I then
went to partition and format in Disk Management. Vista then goes on to ask
for device drivers for the unknown hardware? Vista does a search and comes
back with no results. The hard drive and partitons then disappear from My
Computer and the drive letters removed from the disk in Disk Management.
There are two other sata hard disks installed and running fine though they
were already in place when Vista was installed. Why am I being asked for
device drivers for the new disk? To date I've found no solution to the
problem.

Perhaps you connected it to a RAID controller connector on the mobo instead
of an available solo connector? Check your mobo manual or inspect the mobo
closely to ensure that you are using the right connector. My mobo has four
connectors for solo SATA drives and two for RAID and they are so marked.
However, they all look alike at a glance.
