It shouldn't make any difference, really. For simplicity's sake, just
use the WinXP installation CD.
Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
Use the WD software from boot media to verify and check the hard drive for
full function throughout. Always do this with new WD hard drive. If
satisfactory, the XP installation CD is fine for partitioning. You'll more
likely have to use NTFS for get over 32GB size partition(s) using this
method though is the only restriction.
If you have an XP restore CD ("reinstall CD"?), you're stuck with its
partition size and filesystem it uses. There is no choice without
additional 3rd party partitioning tools.
